Kickstarter Funding Goals
The minimum to get Episode 1 of Riddle 3D completed is $50,000. (Episode 1 is the Giza Plateau, Gil’s Tent, the historical inner chambers of the Great Pyramid, and an extended portion of hidden chambers.) But we will need to reach $150,000 for the whole game. And for the ultimate goal, if we reach $200,000 we will add a whole new extended story — a new environment and story enhancement that no one has ever played!
Head over to Kickstarter to help us meet get Riddle 3D into your hands!
Ever wanted to walk through the Great Pyramid and explore its chambers unrestricted?
The Great Pyramid of Cheops was modeled to scale and rendered using the same stone material… stone by stone. The features, imperfections, and architecture have been replicated for total immersion. (The only recognizable elements we intentionally omitted are the graffiti currently defacing the Great Pyramid and most other monuments.)
Intrigued by the Great Sphinx of the Giza plateau? (If not, you will be….)
The Sphinx, as with Cheops’ Great Pyramid, is an exacting replica of the large, enigmatic Egyptian statue (as close as we could modestly come to recreating such an awesome work of art) . In the game, unlike in reality, you’re able to walk in, around, under, and over the Sphinx at your leisure. In fact, the enclosure in which the Sphinx sits has also been recreated using real restoration photos.
And as a bonus, you can walk into the body of the Sphinx… a cavity that Gil—in the game—discovered. In truth., there is at least one “tunnel” or “cavity” in the Sphinx. Others are rumored to exist but none have been proven. Riddle of the Sphinx is your key to finding the speculated cham… oops, almost gave it away.
Excited by the possibility of discovering secret chambers? Examining hidden tombs? Unearthing sacred artifacts? Exploring lost temples?
So are a lot of others. Notably archaeologists, Egyptologists, scientists, geophysicists and famous psychics… some of whom have found convincing evidence or proposed exotic theories of hitherto undiscovered chambers, tunnels, passageways, doors, tombs, labyrinths, and even the Hall of Records.
Some of the mysterious environments you explore are based on new discoveries and ancient myths & legends… the best of both worlds! Other environments are pure fantasy, but retain the look and feel of ancient Egypt. And all environments contain artifacts found by Howard Carter during his colossal discovery of King Tut’s tomb.
If the engaging story, enigmatic subject matter, unlimited exploration, intertwined factual discoveries, photo-realistic 3d renderings and attention to detail of Riddle of the Sphinx hasn’t yet convinced you, than read the many reviews of happy players and take a look at the gallery (below) of the stunning screenshots from within Riddle of the Sphinx.
Violent sand storms have once again covered most of the Sphinx and Great Pyramids. After years of digging, noted archaeologist Sir Gil Blythe Geoffreys uncovers a secret chamber overlooked for centuries. Geoffreys’ first and only trip reveals an ancient, brittle papyrus scroll. After rough translation, he realizes he’s found the ‘Rosetta Stone’ of the Sphinx.
Finally, Gil thought, the Riddle of the Sphinx… solved!
Sealed with a thick resin, the scroll bears an indiscernible hieroglyph. Unfortunately, after breaking the scroll’s seal and deciphering it’s mysterious contents, Geoffreys realizes he’s unleashed an ancient curse; shrouding those who fail to heed its warning in certain death. Realizing he is doomed, Geoffreys sends for you, his closest friend and colleague.
Upon your arrival to the Giza plateau, you come to realize the curse of which Gil wrote is indeed real and has taken his life.
Now, with the help of Gil’s carefully hidden notes and translation of the scroll, it’s up to you to solve the Riddle. However… the scroll has dubiously disappeared.
Sir Geoffreys ever-greedy colleagues surmised that he discovered a profitable find, and, not trusting one another, they individually rifled through Gil’s tent, searching in vain for the scroll. What has happened to the tattered scroll?
With no scroll, no translation and no clue, each agrees to “help” the other locate Gil’s newly discovered secret chamber. Slowly, they disappear into the Great Pyramid.
Your first responsibility will be to locate the missing scroll. Then, using the tattered scroll with Gil’s translation, you’ll be on the way to solving the Riddle of the Sphinx™!
Match wits with disingenuous archaeologists, survive ingenious deathtraps, and decode ancient puzzles while confronted with tremendous feats of logic designed to thwart 2,500 year old tomb robbers.
Vigilant exploration through secret chambers, hidden tombs, and eerie labyrinths will help to solve this ancient riddle, entombed for centuries by the ancient Egyptians!
Real-time 3D Features
Riddle of the Sphinx was originally created with real-time 3d (Virtual Reality) exploration in mind, but at the time, we didn’t feel as though it was feasible. Today, that has all changed. And we are very excited by how ROTS is looking in this real-time setting. It’s just what we imagined!
Unlimited exploration into almost every crevice of the myriad of detailed chambers and lush environments of ROTS. Imagine walking behind columns, seeing new architectural detail in the Great Pyramid and beyond, and standing on top of the Sphinx for a breathtaking view!
360° Explore or Point-n-Click Simulation modes: for some, we know you prefer the visual continuity of point-n-click, so we’re working on providing that option.
Realistic Torches & Fire with smoke plumes
Realistic Water ripples, flowing rivers, and underwater scenes
Realistic Physics effects such as picking up objects, moving furniture and vases, opening doors, etc.
Dynamic Time of Day and Weather. Explore the Giza Plateau and other outside areas in all times of day or night.
Kick up dust that has been settling for millenia… We originally wanted you to feel and see the dust kicked up in these ancient chambers, and now, as you walk, the dust is lightly kicked up. Of course, this can be disabled if you’re an allergic archeologist 🙂
3D Sound. The sounds in ROTS 3D are now directional and what we would consider 3D sound. As you turn toward a torch, the sound will pan to match your direction.
15th Anniversary Soundtrack! As an added bonus, Jeff Tobler, original ROTS soundtrack composer, will be composing new musical textures more organic and primitive in feel than the originally orchestrated style. You will be able to toggle between the original, the new, or no music.
That’s a taste of what’s coming. The largest archaeological event of the millennia just got larger with Riddle of the Sphinx 3D – 15th Anniversary Edition.
