Am having a wonderful time exploring…

By Riddle of the Sphinx Testimonials, Testimonials No Comments

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone that helped me. I’ve finally found the kings chambers..and the rooms below them and am having a wonderful time exploring and discovering all kinds of terrific things! What a FUN game this is! I love the way the clues are mostly logical…and if you come to a place where it allows you to look around, there’s usually a reason it does so! I found the answers to several of the clues after I’d figured them out on my own just by sheer willpower and trying every possible combination! I love this game! 🙂

Imaginative puzzles, beautiful graphics, and the excellent music…

By Riddle of the Sphinx Testimonials, Testimonials No Comments

What a great game! I thoroughly enjoyed all of it –imaginative puzzles, beautiful graphics, and the excellent music, too. I have a question for you. The ending was good (I think I got the scepters in order mostly by luck!), but I think I got there too soon (unless this was another red herring like the extra bolts). I found only one Royal Weight, and I hung it on the top scale. I never found other weights — are there two more? I hope there really will be a sequel, since you (Gil) hinted at it!

I have goose bumps all over me…

By Riddle of the Sphinx Testimonials, Testimonials No Comments

I just finished Riddle of the Sphinx and I have goose bumps all over me. What an adventure. What an escape. What a complete challenge without causing one to lose patience. I believe it is the best adventure game I have ever played and I have played many. I am a divorced mother of two grown sons, I’m 50 years old and find that I’d rather play adventure games than date. Much more fun. My sons who are both adventure game types are always getting a kick out of me because I get more excited about these games and playing them than they do. I go to the store each week to check out to see if there’s been another new release.Thank you for Riddle of the Sphinx. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My only wish is that at the end of the game another adventure would have begun when the arc was opened, taking me back in time. If you ever want to use me as a guinea pig for your adventure games, please, feel free to do so. There’s nothing I like better.Sincerely,

– Dee

You accomplished what I want all adventure games to accomplish…

By Riddle of the Sphinx Testimonials, Testimonials No Comments

I just finished playing Riddle of the Sphinx, and I am delighted to tell you just how much I enjoyed the game. What I loved most was the intelligence behind the puzzles; set in one of the greatest mysteries, each puzzle was logical and correlated intelligently to each quest at hand. At a few points in the game, I actually felt like I was there. When I stumbled into the Lost City of Ra – my goodness – what a sight! The four huge statues, the oasis; I almost wished I was really there. I loved exploring the secret chambers and I loved walking into the rooms of gold and black onyx. It made me want to redecorate my living room. I especially loved the music and am looking forward to the release of the soundtrack which I intend to purchase. Collecting game soundtracks is a big hobby of mine, because I can play the music and remember the game without having to reload a saved game. The five statues in the Harp Room were fascinating; eerie. I liked staring at each room, especially the last rooms in the Sacred Pool; just stunning. I almost felt bad thinking that the people that designed the Pyramid were no longer alive; really weird response to have but I felt so close to ‘them’ even though this was just a game. Suffice it to say that you accomplished what I want all adventure games to accomplish; to take me out of my current state of mind and place me in a world I can only visit in my imagination.

One last thing; my husband has a fascination for the Pyramid as well. Being a Christian, he has listened to Dr. Gene Scott, a Christian minister out of Los Angeles. Dr. Scott did a series on the Pyramid and, based on some facts revealed in the book, The Great Pyramid Decoded by Peter Lemesurier, we learned the following that allures us to this day:

>From The Great Pyramid Decoded by Peter Lemesurier pp 187-188:

“One of the more obvious places to search for clues [to the possibility that there is a link between the Bible and the Pyramid] might therefore be the Book of Isaiah, a book riddled from beginning to end with Messianic symbolism and with prophecies relating to the end of the age. One of the book’s significant Messianic passages is to be found in chapter 19, where the future Messianic advent is described in terms which might even be taken to refer to a visitation from outer space: ‘See how the Lord comes riding swiftly upon a cloud, he shall descend upon Egypt…’ And then, later in the same chapter there comes the following extraordinary passage: ‘When that day comes there shall be an altar to the Lord in the heart of Egypt, and a sacred pillar set up for the Lord upon her frontier. It shall stand as a token and a reminder to the Lord of Hosts in Egypt, so that when they appeal to him against their oppressors, he may send a deliverer to champion their cause, and he shall rescue them (19:16-17).”

And finally, our favorite clue from the same book pp 190:

“Yet the author of Isaiah has yet another cryptic clue up his copious sleeve – this time an apparent reference to the building’s actual dimensions. It is well known that the characters of written Hebrew serve a double function in that they represent both letter and numbers. It has long been realized that the passage quoted above [Isaiah 19:16-17] seems to have been intentionally cast in such a way as to ensure that the total numerical value of the Hebrew characters is exactly 5449. That, at all events, IS their value. It is astonishing, therefore, to discover that this figure is within .27 of the number of Primitive Inches in the Great Pyramid’s height from base to summit-platform (5448.736P”) – the latter feature (still hidden in Isaiah’s day) apparently being designed specifically to refer in symbol to the imperfect world’s need of some kind of Messianic deliverer.”

Thank you for a great game and I look forward to playing more of your adventures.Regards,

Difficulty level is just right…

By Riddle of the Sphinx Testimonials, Testimonials No Comments

I would just like to say that Rots is an excellent game. The difficulty level is just right though I admit to looking in to Rots talk for the occasional hint. This game is right up there with Myst and Timelapse etc. which is the best accolade I can give. I hope sales have been good and you and your wife get the rewards for all your very hard work. Thanks again.

grand, blockbuster adventure game…

By Riddle of the Sphinx Testimonials, Testimonials No Comments

I have been playing adventure games for years now and have recently noticed a definite decline in the quality of adventure games. Your “Riddle of the Sphinx” brought back the grand, blockbuster adventure game. It was really a pleasure to be transported to ancient Egypt and roam through the temples and ruins figuring out clues without too much danger of dying. The graphics were superb, the difficulty of the clues was just right, the interface with just the mouse was great and 99% of the game played without a hitch. (I was allowed to move the yacht without solving the puzzle.) I am truly looking forward to a sequel in Bermuda, Atlantis, etc. PLEASE keep the adventure games coming, Dreamcatcher. There are plenty of us out here who do not like the intensity of combat in a game. I will buy every game you put on the market with the above criteria.

One of the best of the Explore/Puzzle genre I have ever played…

By Riddle of the Sphinx Testimonials, Testimonials No Comments

I have just finished playing ROTS after receiving it for Christmas. It is one of the best of the Explore/Puzzle genre I have ever played (and I have been playing since 1980). The following is my in-depth review. Rating – 9.3 (to compare, Myst gets a rating of 9.7, Beyond Atlantis gets a 5) Meaning: 9 is excellent, 10 is magical. Overall, the playability was excellent with puzzles which were logical and solvable and graphics and sound which enhanced appropriately. A good measure of playability is how often you feel the need of a Walk-through (in this case, only a couple). Sincerely,
